Your child’s report card will look very different from the report card we have used in the past. Below are several resources on Standards Based Grading. These resources were created to give you additional information on the definition of Standards Based Grading and an overview of what to expect and the end of each quarter.
This week our second graders were busy preparing for our annual Grandparent’s Day Tea on Friday afternoon. This is always a special time for students to share their school experiences with their Grandparent’s and enjoy a special treat. A big thank you to the classroom teachers, our kitchen staff and school social worker for all of their help in setting up for this grand event.
Next week, teachers will begin administering the Developmental Reading Assessment to students. This is an assessment tool that classroom teachers use to identify a students reading level, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Once student levels are identified, classroom teachers use this information for instructional planning. Teachers often have questions from parents asking how they can help their child become better readers. The simple answer is…READ, READ, READ! Make reading a nightly priority, bedtime routine and special time to share with your child. You are an exceptional model for your child. Your support and partnership is necessary for student growth.
Have a wonderful weekend and READ!

Willard South will be helping our community by participating in our building wide “Hats on For Community Service” event which kicks off on Tuesday, September 3rd. This is a monthly community service project that takes place the first Tuesday of every month. Students and staff members show their support by wearing a hat to school and bringing in a canned/boxed food item for the Willard Community Food Pantry. Current supplies are running low due the summer months and the needs of families in our district. The Willard Community Food Pantry is located at 116 Mill Street in Willard. Their hours are Tuesdays from 10:00am-2:00pm. Below is a list of the items needed to help supply our Willard Community Pantry.
- Canned meats

It has been a full week of learning at Willard South! Students are learning about our school wide behavior expectations. This consistent routine helps to ensure students are learning and safe. We follow our ROAR expectations…Respect each other,Observe Safety, Attitude is everything and Responsible for your choices. This is our fourth year to implement these procedures and the results are paying off for our entire building!
I would also like to thank all of the amazing teachers here at Willard South. They are doing an amazing job at starting the school year off on the right foot. They work extremely hard to ensure students are learning both academically and socially. I have walked through classrooms and been amazed at the progress, focus and dedication of both teachers and students. I am confident that we will have another productive year due to their countless hours of preparation, dedication and commitment. THANKS again for all you do to ensure students are learning!
